Hello my name is Erin Schmitz.  I am a proud mom of 3 kiddos, we live in Northeast Iowa & I have a wonderful husband who is my rock.

  

I grew up in Iowa, after college I moved to Arizona.  In Arizona I started my hospitality and tourism career at the Fiesta Bowl.   I then went to work for a 4 diamond resort in Scottsdale handling weddings and convention groups.  While in Arizona I met my husband, who is also from Iowa.  We got married and moved back to Iowa.

Once we moved back to Iowa I was a Catering Director at a private country club then stared working at the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau.  I worked at the bureau for 4 years in convention sales.  When I was pregnant with Jacob I had all intentions on going back to work.  After having to come home from the hospital with oxygen knowing that he would be on oxygen for awhile, we didn’t feel comfortable sending him to daycare.  I resigned from the CVB to be a full time mom specifically to care for Jacob full time.  I am so blessed that I had the time to be a full time mom for one year.  Yes I was busy with Jacobs health but I got to spend very precious time with my children & husband that I will treasure forever.

Then luck would have it Jacobs health started getting much better and there happened to be a gal retiring at the Waterloo CVB.  I was offered her position and I accepted!  I am thrilled that Jacob is doing great now and that I can be comfortable returning to work.  Plus I really do love my job!!!  I am honored to represent the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau and promote Waterloo as a destination to visit and bring groups to our area.

At the Waterloo CVB we promote attractions, things to do in the area, and venues.  In the last 16 months I have experienced many great things Waterloo has to offer including hospitals and therapy programs.  At the beginning I was certain we needed move away because of lack of services available for Jacob.  I now know Waterloo and the Cedar Valley has a heck of a lot to offer!  I am glad we live here and I glad my job is to promote Waterloo / the Cedar Valley!!!

I have to give a plug to the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau they are a wonderful employer.  I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be back to the CVB.  Through this journey having an employer that is supportive means the world!!
